Hello sunshine, for the bees

Can you spot the yellow pollen sacs on their legs?
What's new on the farm:
Happy spring! The weeks roll by, and now here we are in April.
After many wet and rainy days, the sun is finally getting through.
We can see the bees coming into the hives with yellow pollen sacs on their legs.
This is a great sign. It means they can feed the growing nest of brood that will turn into more worker bees.
In the early spring, access to pollen is a bit volatile. The bees need warm flying days to collect it, and the plants need to be flowering.
To tide them over during this period, we will also be giving the bees a supplement of protein. That way they don't go hungry if the weather turns.
It's a precarious time here at the bee farm, but we plan for the best to make it through!
Is it hot where you live? Here's how to store your honey:
We're still getting snow in Saskatoon, but some of our customers live in hotter climates and are starting to see higher temperatures!
Our creamed honey is sensitive to heat. If it sits in a warmer spot for long enough, it will start to become runnier and might start to liquify at the top if it gets really hot.
The honey will also start to darken with age. This process happens even faster if it gets exposed to direct sunlight.
It's still perfectly tasty and healthy to eat. But if you want to keep your extra jars in peak condition, keep it at room temperature (21°C/70°F) or cooler to maintain that thick, creamy texture.
Keeping it in a dark cupboard away from light is ideal too.
Some people prefer to store it in the fridge—it's not necessary but an option if you have the space!

"I purchased the creamed honey about 2 weeks back and let me tell you that it’s THE best tasting honey that I’ve ever tasted. For 20 years I’ve been using orange blossom honey and since I’ve gotten my hands on the creamed honey, I haven’t touched my Orange blossom honey. You literally can eat this off the spoon.. the sweetness is perfect 😍!!! Thank you foragers!!!!"

Thank you, Avis! I love hearing this—raw honey from all over the world is wonderful, but it feels amazing knowing that our honey is tasty enough to get the top spot in your kitchen!
